New Hijri Year 1447 to Begin on Friday, Confirms Moonsighting Committee

Muscat: The Main Moonsighting Committee, responsible for determining the new crescent moons of Hijri months, convened in Muscat this evening to announce that Thursday, 26 June, will be the last day of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH, and Friday, 27 June 2025, will mark the commencement of Muharram 1447 AH, signifying the start of the New Hijri Year 1447 AH.

According to Oman News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, and included key members such as Sheikh Dr. Kahlan Nabhan Al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Eng. Khalid Hilal Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and Ahmed Saleh Al Rashdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Supreme Court judges Mohammed Salim Al Akhzami, Abdul Rahman Abdul Sattar Al Kamali, and Mohammed Salim Al Nahdi were also present.

The objective of the committee’s gathering was to receive observations regarding the crescent moon of Muharram 1447 AH. However, the committee did not receive any reports confirming the sighting of the new crescent moon. Consequently, they declared that Thursday, 26 June 2025, would be the 30th day of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH, and Friday, 27 June 2025, would be recognized as the first day of Muharram 1447 AH.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs extended greetings to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, expressing prayers for his continued health, wellbeing, and blessings. The committee also prayed for prosperity, success, and abundant blessings for Oman and all Muslims worldwide.
