Nechirvan Barzani discusses with the Commander of the International Coalition forces in Iraq and Syria the unification and reorganization of the Peshmerga forces

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, discussed today, Wednesday, with the Commander-in-Chief of the International Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, General Matthew MacFarlane, the unification and reorganization of the Peshmerga forces, and the problems and obstacles that impede the process.

A statement by the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region stated that Barzani received, on Wednesday evening, the Commander-in-Chief of the International Coalition Forces in Iraq and Syria, General Matthew McFarlane, and an accompanying delegation. Opinions and points of view were exchanged on ways to solve these problems and overcome obstacles.

The two sides agreed, according to the statement, in the opinion that the process of unifying and organizing the Peshmerga forces and reform in the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs did not take place as required, and many observations related to this issue were discussed.

For his part, Barzani stressed that despite the problems and obstacles, all efforts will continue to make the process of reform and unification of the Peshmerga a success, and he praised the role and encouragement of the United States of America to make the process a success.

According to the statement, in the meeting, which was attended by the US Consul General in the Kurdistan region, they discussed the relations of Erbil and Baghdad and the situation in the region in general, as well as a group of issues of common concern.
