National Security: Arrest of 21 terrorists, including two prominent ISIS leaders, in Sulaymaniyah

The National Security Service announced today, Monday, the arrest of 21 terrorists, including two prominent ISIS leaders, in Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region.

The Service stated in a statement that “with intelligence efforts and field follow-up that continued for months, and after obtaining judicial approvals, the Anti-terrorism Cell in the Service, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Operations of the Asayish Service of the Kurdistan Region, in a qualitative operation, was able to raid dens of ISIS terrorist gangs, which led to the arrest of 21 people accused of terrorism in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, against whom judicial arrest warrants were issued in accordance with Article 4 of the Anti-Terrorism Law.”

He added: “Among them are leaders in the terrorist organization ISIS, one of whom held the position of security official for what was called (Wilayat al-Fallujah), and the other worked as an administrative assistant for what was called (Wilayat Dijlah),” noting that “after conducting invest
igations with them, they explicitly confessed to their affiliation with ISIS gangs and carrying out several terrorist operations against the security forces.
