Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has organized a workshop focused on the ‘Regulatory Framework for National Data Governance and Management’. This two-day event is aimed at enhancing public awareness and understanding of the framework among representatives of government units and data management specialists.
According to Oman News Agency, the workshop commenced with an opening ceremony led by Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Communications and Information Technology. The event’s primary goal is to equip participants with first-hand knowledge about the regulatory framework, its objectives, and its scope. It also aims to define the roles and responsibilities of government units while providing practical training details.
The workshop featured a visual presentation on the framework, which seeks to standardize practices within government administrative units. An in-depth study of the framework’s three main documents was also conducted. The first document outlines data governance and management requirements, emphasizing 13 key areas to establish unified practices across government units.
The second document introduces a “Manual for Establishing a Data Governance and Management Office”, detailing the necessary elements for government units to create specialized administrative divisions for data governance, aiding in the digital transition.
The third document outlines the standard methodology for assessing compliance levels, identifying implementation priorities, and setting evaluation criteria. This aims to facilitate government departments in aligning with national data governance and management policies.
