Microsoft: Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 update addressing a bug that caused a system file to consume massive amounts of storage, reaching hundreds of gigabytes for some users.
According to Oman News Agency, the optional June 2026 update, designated KB5095093, includes a fix that improves disk space usage for a file called CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal, a system file that manages application permissions.
Several Windows 11 users had reported in recent months that the file had grown abnormally large, with one user saying it had reached around 500 gigabytes on their device, while others recorded sizes between 12 and 200 gigabytes, eating into available storage.
Microsoft did not disclose the direct cause of the issue, but reports suggested the system may have been continuously logging repeated events related to app permission requests or privacy settings, such as location services, causing the file to expand gradually.
The company said affected users can resolve the issue by installing the update through Settings, navigating to Windows Update, selecting Advanced options, clicking on Optional updates, and then downloading and installing the optional June 2026 update (KB5095093).
