Bahla Open Day Highlights Role of Rural Women

Bahla: The activities of the Open Day were celebrated today in the Wilayat of Bahla on the occasion of the International Year of Woman Farmers 2026. The event aimed to shed light on the developmental contributions of women in the agricultural and livestock sectors, and to enhance partnerships between the academic and research sectors to support food sustainability and startups. It was organized by the Department of Agricultural and Livestock Research in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate, in cooperation with the Directorate General of Agriculture and Water Resources in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate and Al Zahra College for Women, with the strategic participation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Shadha Khamis Al Aufi, a livestock production researcher, stated that this celebration comes within the framework of empowering women as an essential partner in development and in appreciation of the role of women farmers in enhancing food security, coinciding with the International Year of Woman Farmers 2026. She reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in supporting and training rural women to achieve the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

The event included the opening of an accompanying developmental exhibition that highlighted the innovations and products of rural women in the governorate, alongside a visual presentation by the FAO on the international dimensions of empowering women in the food production sector. It also featured a real-life success story demonstrating the capability of Omani women to manage agricultural projects and overcome field challenges.

The celebration was also accompanied by various workshops focusing on marketing home-based and small businesses. At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Musallam Ali Al Ma'ani, Dean of Al Zahra College for Women and chief guest of the occasion, honored the participating institutions and entities.
