Muscat:The Ministry of Labour marked the conclusion of the "Safe Summer 2026" campaign, which was designed to increase public awareness about the dangers of heat exposure at worksites during summer and to promote adherence to safety and health standards.

According to Oman News Agency, the ceremony was held under the auspices of Khalid bin Salim Al Ghammari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Labour Affairs. Hussain bin Ali Al Lawati, Director General of Labour Welfare at the Ministry, stated that the campaign aligns with Oman's national policy to enhance occupational safety and mitigate risks associated with summer working conditions.

Al Lawati highlighted that the Ministry continually develops systems and regulations related to occupational safety and monitors private sector compliance with these measures. During the campaign, over 1,000 applications for midday work permits were reviewed, with approximately 79 percent approved after ensuring they met safety requirements.

Field visits to verify compliance with permit terms and worker protection were conducted by the Ministry's teams. Al Lawati noted that adherence to regulations prohibiting work during certain hours, especially midday, exceeded 80 percent.

The campaign also included workshops, programs, and the distribution of information leaflets to raise awareness about heat-related risks. A specific program, "Basma" (Imprint), was implemented in schools to instill safety standards from an early age.

Moving forward, the Ministry plans to focus on modern technologies and international best practices to better equip work establishments in handling challenges posed by climate change and high temperatures.
