Jordan’s Abdullah II stresses need to stop Israel’s aggression against Gaza

AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdullah II stressed the need to exert maximum efforts to reduce escalation in the region and reach a comprehensive calm in order to avoid sliding into a regional war.

This came during his reception of a delegation of assistants to members of the US Congress today at Al-Husseiniya Palace in Amman, in a meeting that discussed current developments in the region, and ways to enhance the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States.

The King stressed that the region will remain vulnerable to the expansion of the circle of conflict that threatens its stability, as long as the aggression on Gaza continues, which requires intensifying international efforts to stop it by reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

The Jordanian monarch warned of the danger of extremist colonists’ attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank, and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

He reaffirmed the need to find a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive
peace based on the two-state solution, as it is the only way to ensure the security of Palestinians, Israelis and the entire region.

The King stressed the need to continue supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to enable it to carry out its humanitarian missions for millions of Palestinians in Gaza and the region, within its international mandate.

The US delegation members expressed their appreciation for Jordan’s pivotal role, led by the King, in seeking to achieve peace and stability in the region.
