Amman: The European Union and Jordan's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have entered into two significant agreements designed to advance sustainable tourism and safeguard cultural heritage across various regions of the Kingdom.
According to Jordan News Agency, the first agreement, "Reviving Culture and Building the Future: Sustainable Tourism and Heritage Preservation in Jerash and Balqa," will target the regions of Jerash and Balqa. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the preservation of heritage sites while simultaneously creating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities. This will be achieved through youth training, supporting tourism-related projects, and developing new tourist routes.
The second agreement, named "Sustainable Empowerment in Cultural Heritage Preservation (RISE)," focuses on areas in Mukawir in Madaba and Rahab in Mafraq. This initiative emphasizes community-driven projects in cultural heritage and sustainable tourism, aimed at promoting local economic development, enhancing skills, and increasing the visibility of tourism destinations.
The EU emphasized that these agreements are expected to bolster heritage preservation capabilities, improve local tourism services, and enhance income generation. The initiatives aim to spotlight Jordan's rich cultural heritage, contributing to more inclusive and sustainable local economies, with a focus on environmental sustainability and community involvement.
