Iraq and Turkey discuss the reality of bilateral relations and ways to develop them in line with good neighborliness and the interests of the two countries

Baghdad, Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning Affairs, received in his office Anil Bora Inan, the new Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad, today, Thursday.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that during the meeting, the reality of bilateral relations and ways to develop them in line with good neighborliness and the interests of the two countries were discussed, as the Undersecretary stressed the interest of the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in achieving the priorities of its government program, including strengthening relations with neighboring countries, pointing to the importance of intensifying dialogues and coordination between the concerned institutions on priority issues for the two countries, especially in the security field, stressing that unilateral solutions do not serve bilateral relations.

The Undersecretary called on the Turkish side to build fruitful economic partnerships to develop the agricultura
l, industrial, tourism and financial sectors, and to translate what was agreed upon in the memoranda of understanding signed in 2014 and 2024 regarding water releases in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers into tangible figures.

For his part, the Turkish Ambassador stressed that his country attaches special importance to Iraq, pointing out Turkey’s keenness on the unity and integrity of Iraqi lands and border security, pointing to the importance of security cooperation and coordination to address common security concerns.

At the end of the meeting, the need to continue constructive dialogue between the two countries was emphasized in a way that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations.
