INSS Dismantles 2 Dangerous Drug Trafficking Networks

Baghdad, -The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS) announced, on Tuesday, the dismantling of two dangerous drug trafficking networks in Dhi Qar and Muthanna.

The INSS’s media stated, in a statement, “Based on confirmed intelligence information about the presence of a drug trafficking gang in Dhi Qar Governorate, a working team was formed from the Anti- Narcotics Department of the National Security in the governorate to investigate and follow up on the members of the aforementioned gang, and after collecting information and obtaining judicial approvals, an operation was initiated on their residence.”

It added: “Three of them were arrested while the others fled, which led to them being pursued and overthrown after an armed confrontation that lasted for four hours, resulting in the injury of one of the officers.”

In Muthanna Governorate, the INSS’s detachments carried out “a qualitative operation that led to the dismantling of a drug trade and promotion network consisting of four defendants after the overthrow of three of them and the pursuit of the latter, who tried to flee and confront the implementing force, which led to his injury and immediate arrest.”

The statement added “In the same governorate, our detachments arrested another accused with a quantity of narcotic drugs in his possession.”

The statement indicated, “The arrest operations were carried out in accordance with judicial arrest warrants and resulted in the seizure of (1,894) Captacon narcotic tablets, which were confiscated in coordination with the relevant authorities, and all defendants were referred to investigation to receive their punishment in accordance with the law.”
