Madrid: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik visited the Senate of Spain in Madrid this morning as part of his state visit to the Kingdom of Spain.
According to Oman News Agency, His Majesty was received upon arrival by Pedro Rollan, President of the Senate, and Francina Armengol, President of the Congress of Deputies. His Majesty subsequently ascended the podium accompanied by the President of the Senate and the President of the Congress, during which the Omani Royal Anthem and the Spanish National Anthem were played.
His Majesty the Sultan then shook hands with some members from both the Senate and the Congress of Deputies, while the two parliamentary speakers shook hands with members of the official Omani delegation. His Majesty further graced the occasion by signing the Distinguished Visitors’ Book. In a gesture of high esteem, His Majesty the Sultan was presented with two commemorative medals by the parliamentary speakers, each engraved with his name in recognition and honour of this visit.
The two parliamentary speakers then escorted His Majesty the Sultan to the main podium within the grand hall of the Senate building, where the President of the Senate delivered a welcoming address. He expressed honour at His Majesty’s visit, commending the deeply rooted historical relations between the two nations and underscoring the commitment of both leaderships to strengthening these ties for mutual benefit across all spheres.
His Majesty the Sultan delivered an address on the occasion of his visit to the Senate, expressing delight at addressing the Council in both its chambers. He highlighted the respect and appreciation for the Spanish people and their honourable positions on global issues, noting the historic friendship built on mutual respect and cooperation. His Majesty also acknowledged the warm welcome received from the Spanish people and recognized Spain’s cultural heritage as a testament to its historical and civilizational achievements.
His Majesty emphasized the strong relationship with His Majesty the King of Spain and the bond between the Omani and Spanish people, expressing eagerness to support and strengthen relations across political, economic, commercial, and cultural aspects. He acknowledged the role of councils in developing national work and fostering community participation in decision-making.
In the Sultanate of Oman, His Majesty looks forward to continued cooperation with Spain, exploring future collaborations at governmental and private levels. The visit aims to serve the interests of both peoples, with prayers for the Spanish people’s continued progress and prosperity and for bilateral relations to develop toward wider horizons.
