Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued four significant Royal Decrees aimed at reforming legal terminology, appointing a new Attorney General, and advancing infrastructure projects.

According to Oman News Agency, Royal Decree No. (79/2026) introduces amendments to certain provisions of the Basic Law of the State, specifically changing the term 'Attorney General Office' to 'Public Prosecution' in all relevant laws and decrees. This decree, effective immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette, nullifies any conflicting provisions.

Royal Decree No. (80/2026) further specifies changes to the designations associated with the Attorney General Office, aligning them with the new terminology of 'Public Prosecution.' This includes a comprehensive update of job titles, such as replacing 'Assistant Public Prosecutor' with 'Deputy Attorney General.' The decree also mandates the cancellation of any provisions that contradict these changes and is effective upon publication in the Official Gazette.

Additionally, Royal Decree No. (81/2026) appoints Nasr bin Khamis bin Mohammed Al Sawaee as the new Attorney General. This appointment is official as of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Lastly, Royal Decree No. (82/2026) designates the Barka Link dual-carriageway and A'Suwaiq Link Road projects, along with a flyover in North Al Batinah Governorate, as public utility projects. This classification allows concerned authorities to expropriate necessary properties and lands to facilitate the project, in line with the Public Utility Expropriation Law. This decree is effective immediately upon its official publication.

These decrees highlight the Sultan's continued efforts to streamline legal frameworks and enhance national infrastructure, facilitating progress and development across various sectors in the country.
