HM The Sultan and Iranian President Witness Signing of Bilateral Agreements and MoUs

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran attended a significant ceremony at Al Alam Palace, where five cooperation agreements, ten memoranda of understanding (MoUs), and three executive programmes were signed. This event marked the official visit of the Iranian President to the Sultanate of Oman.

According to Oman News Agency, the first agreement focused on legal and judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters, including the extradition of accused persons and the transfer of sentenced individuals. This was signed by Oman’s Minister of Interior, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, and Iran’s Minister of Justice, Dr. Amin Hossein Rahimi.

The second agreement established a framework for joint cooperation, with Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, and Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, as signatories. The third agreement aimed to encourage and mutually protect investments, signed by Oman’s Minister of Finance, Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade, Seyed Mohammad Atabak.

Additionally, a mutual administrative assistance agreement in customs matters was signed, involving the same ministers from both sides. The fifth agreement concerning trade preferences was signed by Oman’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion, Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, and Seyed Mohammad Atabak from the Iranian side.

The MoUs covered a wide range of sectors. The first MoU dealt with deploying armed security guards on flights, while the second focused on health sector cooperation. Both were signed by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The third MoU was between Oman News Agency and the Islamic Republic News Agency.

Further MoUs included areas such as communications and information technology, museum cooperation, housing and urban planning, organizing exhibitions, and development of small and medium enterprises. The mining and mineral resources sector, as well as the feasibility study of an electrical interconnection project, were also addressed.

Three executive programmes were signed to enhance cooperation in technical education and vocational training, cultural exchanges, and tourism. These programmes were spearheaded by various ministers from both nations, aiming to bolster bilateral relations further.

This historic signing ceremony underscores the commitment of Oman and Iran to strengthen their bilateral relations through comprehensive cooperation in various fields.
