HH Sayyid Bilarab Encourages Growth of Omani Startups During Visit to Thawani Technologies

Muscat: HH Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham Al Said, Honorary President of the Programme of Omani Promising Startups (POPS), today visited ‘Thawani Technologies’, the first licensed financial technology company in the Sultanate of Oman. The visit is part of a broader effort to support and motivate emerging startups, understand their goals, and bolster their contribution to the national economy.

According to Oman News Agency, HH Sayyid Bilarab toured the facilities of ‘Thawani’, established in 2016, which has made strides in innovative payment solutions that align with local market needs and contribute to the national digital transformation agenda under Oman Vision 2040. Thawani Technologies presented its achievements in employing advanced technologies, including smartphone solutions, biometric payment systems, artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning, and secure payment cards.

The company also highlighted its local and international accolades, such as the Innovation Unit Award for Entrepreneurship in 2020 and the Best FinTech Company in the Middle East Award in 2024. During discussions, company specialists outlined their plans for regional expansion, aiming to penetrate both regional and international markets to enhance the global footprint of Omani startups.

HH Sayyid Bilarab commended Thawani’s success in utilizing modern technologies to improve digital payment and collection systems. He underscored the significance of startups continuing to evolve and keeping pace with global innovations. The visit was attended by Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology; Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Haddabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation for Research and Innovation; Eng. Said bin Abdullah Al Mantheri, CEO of Oman Information and Communications Technology Group (ITHCA); and members of the Supervisory Committee of POPS.
