Geagea criticizes Berri’s three-step presidential election proposal

Lebanese Forces party leader, Samir Geagea, on Thursday condemned House Speaker Nabih Berri's new proposal for electing a president, which includes a three-step process: "consultation, consensus, and election." Geagea argued that this approach effectively undermined the presidential election process, turning it into a mere formality after consultations and agreements. 'This strategy disregards the constitution's clear mandate for direct elections and transforms the parliament into a "loya jirga" rather than a functional legislative body,' Geagea said, criticizing the new proposal as a continuation of the old "Army, People, Resistance" formula, which he believes has compromised Lebanon's military and state functions.
