Muscat:A report from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics indicates that approximately 201,290 buildings in the Gaza Strip have been damaged due to Israeli aggression between October 7, 2023, and June 16, 2026. This accounts for about 82 percent of the total buildings in the area.
According to Oman News Agency, the Bureau highlighted that a recent satellite assessment by the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) revealed the complete destruction of around 134,422 buildings, with an additional 13,848 buildings suffering severe damage.
The data further shows that the number of damaged housing units in the Gaza Strip has reached roughly 328,627. This has led to ongoing displacement and exacerbated the housing and humanitarian needs of the population.
The Bureau emphasized the unprecedented challenges facing Palestinian housing, citing the extensive destruction impacting homes and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. It also noted the continued demolition of homes and forced displacement in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.
World Habitat Day, observed on the first Monday of October, was mentioned by the Bureau as an opportunity to focus on "Adequate Housing for All," underscoring the necessity of providing safe, adequate, and affordable housing along with basic services.
The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics called for an integrated humanitarian and developmental response to tackle the housing crisis in Palestine, particularly given the extent of destruction and the increasing needs of the population in the Gaza Strip.
