For the third time… Extremists burn the Holy Qur’an in Denmark

A number of anti-Islam extremists set fire to copies of the Noble Qur’an in front of the Egyptian and Turkish Embassies in Copenhagen today, Tuesday, after similar incidents in Denmark and Sweden during the past weeks, which angered Muslims.

On Monday, Turkey strongly condemned what it described as a "despicable attack" on the Koran, and called on Denmark to take the necessary measures to prevent this "hate crime" against Islam.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned today, Tuesday, the Charge d'Affaires of the Swedish Embassy to denounce the incidents of burning and insulting the Holy Qur'an.

In Baghdad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called, on Monday, the authorities of the European Union countries to "quickly reconsider the so-called freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate" after the incidents of burning the Qur'an.

The Danish government has also condemned the incidents of burning the Qur'an, describing them as "provocative and shameful acts", but says it has no authority to prevent peaceful demonstrators from doing so.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said today, Tuesday, that he had a "constructive" phone call with Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein regarding bilateral relations between the two countries and the incidents of burning the Qur'an.
