Muscat: The Environment Authority concluded this year’s Environmental Debate Championship today at Al Mouj Muscat. The championship is one of the most important initiatives created by the Environmental Ambassadors initiative team at the Authority.
According to Oman News Agency, the closing ceremony was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, with the presence of Dr. Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, and Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority. The championship, organized with support from Asia Iron Mold Company, aims to enhance environmental awareness among Omani youth, encourage them to discuss environmental issues with depth and responsibility, and instill a culture of dialogue as a means of expressing opinions and finding sustainable solutions.
The final debate of the championship featured teams from Sultan Qaboos University and the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Ibri. The University of Technology and Applied Sciences team emerged victorious, securing first place in the 2025 championship. Ammar Al Mahrouqi from Sultan Qaboos University received the Best Speaker award, with Amina Al Ajmi from Sohar Club and Muneer Al Shukaili from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Ibri taking second and third places, respectively.
The championship’s themes covered significant environmental topics in the Sultanate of Oman, including vegetation cover, wildlife, conservation of natural resources, pollution, and issues related to water and its resources. Additionally, the debates addressed afforestation, pollution and waste, energy and climate change, biodiversity and wildlife, as well as awareness and social responsibility.
