Duqm, 17 Oct (ONA) —- Deliberations of the 1st Duqm Economic Forum were concluded today.
The two-day event included several discussion panels which highlighted the future of green industries in the Special Economic Zone in Duqm (SEZAD) and its future growth prospects. The forum discussed Oman’s potential to become a renewables superpower and the role of Duqm in making Oman an international source of carbon-free energy, giving the country a competitive edge in the green energy field.
Meanwhile, several CEOs and businesspeople, who participated in the forum lauded SEZAD’s features that attract many projects in the fields of green energy, renewable energy and other promising sectors.
Stephen R. Thomas, CEO of Renaissance Services said that SEZAD accords special care to human capital. Duqm, he said, has the necessary infrastructure to attract direct and indirect foreign capital.
He told Oman News Agency (ONA) that Renaissance Services invested approximately RO 100 million in Duqm to provide accommodation for workers, as per the standards of the UN’s International Labour Organization (ILO).
Such qualitative investments, he affirmed, contribute to attracting further investments and making the zone suitable for establishing businesses and industrial projects of various types.
On his turn, Richard Scott, Vice President of Business Development at ACME Group said that the Sultanate of Oman in general and Duqm in particular have many potentials for future investments.
He pointed out that ACME group continues expanding its operations in Duqm and hopes to reduce carbon emissions, to eventually reach zero carbon emissions in its operations.
Mohammed Rafi, General Manager of Aerotrans Global Forwarding company said that Duqm Port provides many opportunities for establishing projects during the coming years. Those future prospects encourage companies to expand their operations in Duqm.
He pointed out that Duqm’s strategic location makes it suitable for attracting projects of green hydrogen, renewable energy and logistics.
Meanwhile, Wajahat Raheem, Senior Marketing Specialist at Zoomlion Heavy Industry underscored the importance of incentives offered by SEZAD. Duqm’s continuous development makes it a prominent zone for attracting capital, which in turn will further boost the zone’s growth, he added.
