Muscat:The dollar regained some lost ground today as investors eagerly await the release of minutes from the US Federal Reserve's meeting and comments from monetary policy officials regarding interest rate directions.
According to Oman News Agency, the euro lost some of its earlier gains, impacted by increasing French bond yields. Meanwhile, the Japanese yen weakened despite a Bank of Japan policy board member expressing a preference for monetary easing and support for raising interest rates.
The US central bank is set to unveil the minutes of its September monetary policy meeting, during which it raised interest rates in an effort to curb inflation. Recently, remarks from the bank's monetary policy officials have been less aggressive due to weaker-than-expected data on personal consumption expenditures and employment.
Gavin Friend, Senior Market Strategist at National Australia Bank, noted a reduced urgency for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates further, following the weaker data on personal consumption expenditure and the latest non-farm payrolls reports.
