The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), led by Masoud Barzani, announced that the KDP will run in the provincial council elections in Kirkuk and other places with all its weight, and will not ally with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

The head of the KDP’s organizational office in Kirkuk, Kamal Kirkuki, said in a statement: “The KDP registered its participation in the elections with the IHEC, and held talks with a number of parties to form an alliance with them.”

He added, “The political parties with which the KDP will ally, are Kurdish and Turkmen national forces that have influence, and their positions are similar to those of the KDP and the Kurds, and they are against the betrayal of October 16.”

Kirkuki pointed out that the Change Movement has not yet officially announced its position on participating in the electoral process.

He said: “The KDP respects the decision of the Change Movement; however, if it decides to ally with the KDP, it is certainly welcome.”

He stressed that the KDP will never ally with those who betrayed the Kurds and Kirkuk on October 16, referring to the operations of imposing law in Kirkuk 2017.
