Days after assuming office, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Javad Zarif resigns

Iranian media reported that Iranian Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif submitted his resignation to President Masoud Pezeshkian.

On August 1, Pezeshkian appointed Mohammad Javad Zarif as Vice President for Strategic Affairs and entrusted him with the responsibility of the Presidential Strategic Research Center.

A decree issued on August 1 by the Iranian President stated that Mohammad Javad Zarif was appointed Vice President for Strategic Affairs based on Article 124 of the Constitution and in view of the levels of merit and valuable administrative, academic and executive experience he possesses.

Earlier, the Iranian “IRNA” Agency reported that Masoud Pezeshkian submitted the formation of his proposed ministerial portfolio to the Iranian parliament.

The most prominent candidates in the lineup were Abbas Araghchi as Foreign Minister, and Ismail Khatib as Iranian Intelligence Minister.
