China’s Non-Manufacturing Sector Shows Slight Growth in June

Beijing: The purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for China’s non-manufacturing sector reached 50.5 in June, reflecting a 0.2 percentage point increase from the previous month, as revealed by official data today. A PMI reading above 50 signifies expansion, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.

According to Oman News Agency, the construction sector’s sub-index showed improvement, registering at 52.8 in June, which is an increase of 1.8 percentage points from the previous month. The service sector also continued its upward trajectory, with its sub-index positioned at 50.1 in June.

Sectors such as postal services, telecommunications, broadcasting and television, satellite transmission services, internet software and information technology services, monetary and financial services, capital market services, and insurance reported business activity indices above 55, suggesting a strong level of activity.

However, industries like retail, road transportation, air transportation, accommodation, catering, and real estate reported business activity indices below the 50-point mark, indicating contraction. The new orders index was at 46.6 in June, showing a 0.5 percentage point rise compared to the previous month, signaling a recovery in market demand within the non-manufacturing sector, according to the NBS data.

Additionally, Monday’s data indicated that the PMI for China’s manufacturing sector was at 49.7 in June, marking a 0.2 percentage point increase from May.
