CBO Issues Silver Coin Commemorating 2026 FIFA World Cup

Muscat: The Central Bank of Oman (CBO), in collaboration with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), announced the issuance of a silver commemorative coin in celebration of the FIFA World Cup 2026. This initiative highlights the global sporting event hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.

According to Oman News Agency, the commemorative coins are designed to the highest technical standards and made of pure silver (0.999). Each coin carries a face value of One Rial, with a diameter of 38.61 mm and a weight of 28.28 grams. A total of 5000 coins have been minted for this occasion. Of these, 1000 will be allocated for sale in the local market, while the remaining 4000 will be available for purchase in the global market through international sales companies licensed by FIFA.

These legal tender coins can be purchased from various CBO locations, including Ruwi, Salalah, and Sohar, or through the Oman Post sale window at the Opera Galleria starting June 30, 2026. The minimum price is set at RO 73, though it may increase in line with international silver market prices. Additionally, the coins are available in the global market through licensed international selling companies.
