CBO Board Approves New Banking Policies and Commemorative Coins

Muscat:The Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) convened for its third meeting of 2026 at the Bank's headquarters in Muscat Governorate.

According to Oman News Agency, the Board adopted a new Policy on the Classification and Licensing of Banks and Representative Offices of Foreign Banks in Oman. This policy aims to enhance the regulatory framework of the banking sector, ensuring that classification and licensing procedures meet current requirements and standards. Additionally, an Emergency Policy and Framework, along with related measures and procedures, were also approved during the meeting.

In a move to celebrate cultural and historical milestones, the Board approved the issuance of commemorative coins. These coins will honor Omani Women's Day, human civilizations, and several notable Omani figures.

The financial health of the Central Bank of Oman was also addressed with the approval of its financial position for the second quarter of 2026. Furthermore, the budget for the College of Banking and Financial Studies for the 2026/2027 academic year was sanctioned.

The Board reviewed key issues discussed in previous meetings, along with various reports, meeting minutes, and other agenda items, making appropriate decisions as necessary.
