CAA Issues Weather Alert (2) on Tropical Condition over Arabian Sea

Muscat, The latest satellite images and analyses from the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre indicate the development of the weather condition over the Arabian Sea into a tropical storm.

The storm will be officially named by the Regional Center responsible for observing the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that the system located south west of the Arabian sea, is located at approximately 10.0 degrees North latitude and 61.0 degrees East longitude. It is about 1012 kilometers away from the coasts of Oman.

The wind speed around the center ranges from 34 to 63 knots, and the nearest rainy cloud mass is located about 750 kilometers away from the Wilayat of Sadah.

According to the forecast, this tropical storm will continue to move west-northwestward towards the coasts of Dhofar Governorate and the Republic of Yemen, CAA added.

The storm is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. The direct impact is expected to begin in Dhofar and Al Wusta on Sunday, 22 October 2023. The center of the tropical system is expected to cross over land between Monday’s midnight and Tuesday’s morning between Dhofar Governorate and Yemen’s Al Mahra Governorate.

Wave height along the coastal areas of South A’Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates with be ranging from 2.5 to 4.5 meters.
