Arab Statistical Committee Convenes High-Level Meeting in Muscat

Muscat: The 43rd session of the Arab Permanent Technical Committee for Statistics commenced in Muscat today, gathering senior officials from Arab statistical organizations and representatives of international statistical bodies. The high-level meeting focused on advancing regional statistical cooperation and addressing contemporary challenges in data management.

According to Oman News Agency, delegates engaged in substantive discussions covering Arab statistical performance evaluation frameworks, data quality enhancement mechanisms, and progress monitoring of joint Arab-international statistical initiatives. The agenda featured presentations on successful national digital transformation programs and emerging applications of artificial intelligence in statistical analysis.

Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), emphasized the strategic importance of the gathering. “This session provides a crucial platform for knowledge exchange and aligning with global advancements in statistical methodologies and digital transformation,” Al Barwani stated. He highlighted the necessity of integrated approaches among Arab statistical agencies in data production, analytical capabilities, and developing unified regional databases to strengthen the Arab world’s representation in international statistical indicators.

He reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to supporting unified statistical standards and implementing international best practices across Arab nations. “Oman remains dedicated to fostering accurate, reliable statistical systems that support knowledge-based economic development, fully aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040,” he added.

The Permanent Technical Committee for Statistics, operating under the Arab League’s framework, brings together heads of statistical agencies from member states. The committee provides technical recommendations to the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Statistical Affairs, focusing on harmonizing statistical efforts and promoting regional integration in statistical practices and standards.
