Muscat: The branch of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in the Wilayat of Ibri, Governorate of A'Dhahirah, achieved a global accolade in the field of 'University Theatre' during its participation in the 20th edition of the International University Theatre Festival. This prestigious event was held in the city of Monastir, Republic of Tunisia, from August 8 to 17, 2026.

According to Oman News Agency, the festival gathered approximately 350 students and innovators from 15 Arab and foreign countries. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Hilal bin Abdullah Al Sinani, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Tunisia.

The UTAS student theatre group garnered several awards, including first place in the Best Scenography Award contest. In addition, student Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Ghafri won second place in the Best Actor Award contest, while writer Maram Ali Al Muqbali received an 'Encouragement Award' for the Best Play Script. Furthermore, the UTAS was honored with an award from the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Research.

The Omani Ambassador praised the involvement of Omani students, emphasizing that such a festival provided an opportunity for the students to exchange experiences and ideas with peers from various countries.
