US-Iran Military Escalation Threatens Ceasefire and Diplomatic Negotiations

Muscat: The United States and Iran have exchanged military strikes, imperiling the fate of the ceasefire accord and diplomatic efforts to reach a comprehensive peace agreement between them. US Central Command announced that the American military had completed additional defensive strikes targeting multiple sites within Iran, affirming that the operations were carried out in response to what it described as Iranian threats against US forces and international commercial vessels transiting regional waters.

According to Oman News Agency, in a statement, Central Command said that US forces had struck Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communications systems, and air defense positions across various regions of Iran. In response, the Iranian military command stated that it had launched a number of missiles and suspended maritime navigation in the area. However, the United States denied reports regarding the suspension of maritime navigation in the Middle East, asserting that commercial vessels continue to transit normally.
