Muscat: The United Nations has called for urgent action to protect children and young people from the growing risks associated with internet use, warning of exposure to misinformation and the harmful applications of artificial intelligence. According to Oman News Agency, more than 80 per cent of young people aged 15 to 24 worldwide are currently using the internet, with the proportion of young internet users in low-income countries nearly double that of the rest of the population. The UN urged Member States, technology companies, advertisers, media outlets, and researchers to prioritize child protection and to involve young people in efforts to mitigate the harms arising from digital environment risks.
