Trial Tests Conducted on Using Drones to Combat Desert Locusts

Muscat: Acting in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has carried out field trials to test the efficiency of drones in combating desert locusts. The initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance aerial spraying techniques used in controlling locusts and other pests affecting agricultural regions.

According to Oman News Agency, the trials are aimed at evaluating the potential of drone technology in effectively managing locust infestations, which pose a significant threat to crops and food security. The Ministry, in collaboration with FAO, is exploring innovative solutions to improve the precision and reach of pest control measures in farming areas.
