Muscat: The Governorate of South A'Sharqiyah today launched the practical implementation of the National Addressing System within the governorate, a strategic initiative aimed at standardizing addressing criteria, enhancing service efficiency, and supporting urban planning and digital transformation across the governorate's various wilayats.

According to Oman News Agency, the launch took place during a meeting attended by Dr. Yahya Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South A'Sharqiyah, along with the National Addressing Team and a number of specialists from the governorate and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. The meeting was convened as part of efforts to strengthen institutional integration and monitor progress in the project's implementation.

The accompanying meeting reviewed the objectives of the National Addressing System, which include standardizing addressing criteria across all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, thereby contributing to improved service efficiency, enhanced public safety, and the development of a precise and unified spatial database serving various sectors.

The discussions addressed achievement indicators across the wilayats of South A'Sharqiyah Governorate, the progress of street naming and pilot area works, in addition to digital applications, system implementation tools, data update mechanisms, and integration with relevant authorities.

The meeting also examined plans for the next phase, which encompass the completion of naming works and field verification, the installation of street and building signage, and the strengthening of electronic integration between government systems and their linkage to the national addressing platform. This ensures the system's readiness for future expansion and its capacity to accommodate the requirements of accelerating development.

Furthermore, the meeting addressed mechanisms for providing the necessary support to the implementing contractor to commence addressing system works in target areas, as well as strategies to address potential challenges during the implementation phases, thereby ensuring the project proceeds in accordance with the approved timeline.

It is worth noting that the National Addressing Project represents a foundational pillar in the development of the government services ecosystem and a vital enabler of digital transformation, providing precise spatial data that supports decision-making, enhances the quality of services delivered to citizens and residents, and strengthens the governorate's preparedness to meet the objectives of sustainable development and Oman Vision 2040.
