Shura Council Engages in Arab Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee Meeting in Cairo

Cairo: The Shura Council today participated in a meeting of the temporary Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee held in Cairo. This gathering included representatives from Arab parliaments and aimed to enhance joint Arab parliamentary efforts and coordinate positions on current regional and international levels.

According to Oman News Agency, the meeting focused on increasing Arab presence in international parliamentary conferences and developing coordination and consultation measures among Arab parliaments. The committee explored proposals to create a unified Arab stance that reflects the priorities of Arab countries concerning current international issues.

The discussions also included preparing a coordination agreement with the African Group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union. This effort aims to consolidate joint Arab-African positions on international matters. A meeting was also conducted with a delegation from the Inter-Parliamentary Union via video conferencing to review strategies and discuss opportunities for cooperation, including exchanging legislative expertise and enhancing capacity-building programs.

The meeting emphasized the significance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy to support international cooperation, promote dialogue among parliaments, and explore ways to upgrade institutional communication mechanisms between the unions, aligning with rapid international developments. Representing Oman at the meeting was Dr. Hamoud Ahmed Al Yahya'ee from the Shura Council.
