Sohar: A ceremony was held today to inaugurate the Science and Innovation Center at Al Batinah International School in the Wilayat of Sohar. The center was established with the support of Sohar Aluminium as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs. The event was held under the auspices of Mohammed Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah.
According to Oman News Agency, the center spans an area of 570 square meters and comprises three fully integrated scientific laboratories equipped with the latest technologies for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In addition to service facilities and storage spaces, the center provides a modern educational environment that actively supports practical learning, research, and innovation.
The center aims to achieve several key objectives, namely developing students' skills in critical thinking, analysis, problem-solving, and research; instilling a culture of innovation and exploration; enhancing students' interest in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as healthcare and preparing qualified national cadres to support the national transition toward a knowledge-based economy.
Eng. Said Mohammed Al Masoudi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar Aluminium, stated that the center stems from the company's firm belief in the importance of investing in education as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development. He emphasized that the project provides an advanced educational environment that enables students to develop their creative capabilities and acquire the skills necessary to keep pace with rapid changes in various scientific and technological fields.
Dominic Robeau, Principal of Al Batinah International School, noted that the facility was specifically designed to be a modern educational environment. It allows students to engage in scientific and practical experiments that enhance their understanding of complex concepts and encourage both creativity and innovation.
The center is expected to serve as a dynamic platform for hosting scientific workshops, research projects, innovation competitions, and various educational initiatives. This will significantly contribute to enriching the educational landscape in the North Al Batinah Governorate.
Furthermore, the center will be accessible to public school students within the governorate. In cooperation with the Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah, these students will be able to utilize the center's scientific resources and practical learning experiences. This collaboration aims to promote equal educational opportunities and elevate overall learning outcomes.
The establishment of this center aligns with Sohar Aluminium's ongoing efforts to support the education sector, enhance its contributions to sustainable development, and firmly root a culture of innovation and scientific research among the youth.
