Oman’s State Council Engages in IPU General Assembly in Tanzania

Arusha:The State Council joined the Council of Oman delegation at the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. The assembly centered on the theme of "Enhancing Good Governance and Empowering Communities Through Inclusivity, Trust, and Opportunities for All."

According to Oman News Agency, the General Assembly addressed various topics, including governance, community participation, international peace and security, sustainable development, democracy, and human rights. Dr. Shamsa Masoud Al Sheibani, a State Council member and part of the IPU Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, emphasized Oman's commitment to protecting human dignity and promoting fundamental rights, peace, justice, and equality. She linked these efforts to Oman Vision 2040, highlighting the importance of human development.

Dr. Al Sheibani called for actionable programs that would impact human life positively, focusing on child security, labor rights, opportunities, empowerment of persons with disabilities, and youth participation. She stressed that dialogue, understanding, and international cooperation are essential for addressing challenges and fostering peace and stability.

The State Council also took part in the 218th Session of the Governing Council of the IPU, where discussions covered the IPU's organizational and administrative matters, electoral dues, and ways to enhance cooperation among member parliaments.

Additionally, the State Council participated in the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) meetings, which focused on exchanging expertise, improving parliamentary management practices, and strengthening cooperation among parliamentary bodies.

The delegation, including Khalid Ahmed Al Saadi, Secretary-General of the Council, and Dr. Aisha Said Al Ghabshi, underscored the Council's commitment to international parliamentary engagement. This participation highlights the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering dialogue, exchanging expertise, and supporting peace and sustainable development initiatives.
