Oman Sees 3.4% Increase in Health Institutions in 2025

Muscat:The number of health institutions in Oman grew to 2,464 in 2025, marking a 3.4% increase from the previous year, according to data from the Health Statistics 2026 publication released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

According to Oman News Agency, the expansion involved both government and private sectors, with 80 additional institutions established. Muscat Governorate experienced the most significant rise, adding 21 new health institutions. The total number of hospitals, including both government and private, rose to 98 from 94 in 2024.

The health workforce saw expansion as well, with Omanis making up 51% of the total. The number of Omani doctors rose by 12%, reaching approximately 4,300 in 2025, up from 3,800 the previous year.

Healthcare services also improved, with outpatient visits to Ministry of Health institutions increasing by 3% to 16.1 million in 2025. Surgical procedures at these institutions rose by 9% to 101,700, compared to 93,100 in 2024. Dialysis sessions also saw a 5% increase, totaling around 401,000 in 2025, and the number of institutions with dialysis units grew to 32.

In terms of blood donation, the number of donors increased by 1.4% between 2024 and 2025, with Muscat Governorate accounting for about half of all donations. Omanis represented 82.7% of the total donors.

Maternal and child health indicators showed improvement, with the maternal mortality rate among Omani women dropping from 14.5 to 11.3 deaths per 100,000 live births. The infant mortality rate decreased from 8.0 to 7.4 deaths per 1,000 live births. Meanwhile, the fertility rate among Omani women was 2.8 in 2025, and life expectancy at birth for the total population reached 78.6 years.

The total number of deaths registered at Ministry of Health hospitals was 3,992 in 2025, with circulatory system diseases being the leading cause.

On the economic side, health sector expenditure rose to approximately RO 1.162 billion in 2025, up from RO 1.084 billion in 2024, reflecting a 7.2% increase. The Health Statistics 2026 report offers a broad range of statistical indicators related to health institutions, workforce, services, reproductive health, morbidity, mortality, and economic aspects based on 2025 data.
