Oman Reaffirms Role in Global Anti-Racism Efforts

New York:The Sultanate of Oman has reiterated its dedication to global initiatives targeting racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance. This reaffirmation occurred during its involvement in the high-level meeting commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action at the United Nations Headquarters.

According to Oman News Agency, Oman stressed the need to convert international principles and commitments into concrete impacts on people's lives. Sheikh Ambassador Mohammed Abdullah Al Qatabi, Head of the Organizations Department at the Foreign Ministry, led Oman's delegation.

Oman highlighted its enduring approach centered on dialogue, understanding, and coexistence. It showcased national and international initiatives such as the "Message of Peace," "Human Fraternity," and the "Muscat Action Plan," which launched in June at the United Nations. The plan focuses on empowering traditional and indigenous leaders to counter hate speech, prevent genocide and atrocity crimes, and support mediation and peace efforts.

In its concluding remarks, Oman emphasized the significance of bolstering international cooperation, linking global commitments to local actions, and utilizing community-based knowledge and expertise. It underscored the importance of youth involvement and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the United Nations and the international community to safeguard human dignity and transform diversity into mutual understanding and peacebuilding.
