Oman: Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) today celebrated the graduation of 145 physicians-from two local fellowship programmes and 19 medical specialties. The graduates constituted the 17th batch of physicians who completed periods of training at the OMSB that lasted 4 to 6 academic years for specialty training programmes and 2 to 3 years for local fellowship programmes.
According to Oman News Agency, the ceremony was held at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre under the auspices of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health and Chairman of OMSB Board of Trustees. Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al Ajmi, Executive President of the OMSB, gave a speech in which she said that the graduation of the 17th batch embodies the outcome of years of institutional action and constant development. She highlighted that the OMSB is nearing two decades since its establishment, evolving into a national entity responsible for specialized medical education and forming a crucial part of the health system in Oman.
Dr. Fatima emphasized the OMSB's commitment to aligning with the latest scientific and technological advancements in medical education, underlining the importance of innovation and preparation for future needs. She noted that the incorporation of artificial intelligence technologies in medical training at the OMSB has improved the quality of educational programmes, supported clinical decision-making, and enhanced physicians' skills, thereby elevating the healthcare provided to the community.
The ceremony featured a visual presentation showcasing the experiences of physicians during their training at the Oman Medical Specialty Board. The graduates completed two local fellowship specializations in paediatric cardiology, paediatric haematology and oncology, along with 19 medical specialties, including histopathology, anaesthesiology, clinical biochemistry, dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, general dentistry, general surgery, haematology, internal medicine, microbiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, otolaryngology (ENT), paediatrics, psychiatry and radiology.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the minister presented graduation certificates to the 145 graduates.
