Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman participated today, via video conferencing, in the 42nd meeting of senior municipal officials of the GCC, chaired by Eng. Masoud Said Al Hashmi, Governor of South Al Batinah. The meeting focused on several key topics aimed at enhancing municipal cooperation and development across GCC states.

According to Oman News Agency, the meeting addressed the follow-up on implementing decisions made in the previous meeting of the Committee of Ministers responsible for municipal affairs in the GCC. Participants emphasized the importance of advancing guiding manuals related to urban environment committees, strategic urban planning, and enhancing legislation and municipal oversight mechanisms.

The agenda included discussions on the objectives of the joint GCC municipal work plan for 2027, updates on the Gulf Building Code, and the organization of joint municipal events. Additionally, the meeting covered the signing of agreements with specialized organizations to further these initiatives.

Concluding the meeting, several recommendations were formulated to enhance GCC municipal collaboration, which will be presented at the 29th meeting of the Committee of Ministers focused on municipal affairs in the GCC, scheduled for 10 September in Manama, Bahrain. The meeting was attended by Eng. Mohammed Saif Al Amri, Director General of Governorates Affairs, and Sheikh Khalid Hilal Al Maamari, Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Interior.
