Oman and Russia Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Moscow: In a significant move to bolster the historic ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Russian Federation, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik embarked on a State Visit to Russia, following an invitation from President Vladimir Putin. The visit, which took place on April 21-22, 2025, underscores a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.

According to Oman News Agency, the official talks between the leaders were held in the Grand Hall of the Kremlin Palace. The discussions were marked by a mutual determination to deepen bilateral cooperation, aligning with the interests of both nations. The leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress in their relations and emphasized the need to build upon these achievements.

The dialogue encompassed a variety of issues, focusing on strengthening economic and trade relations across critical sectors. Both sides recognized the importance of boosting joint investments and maintaining ongoing communication to advance cooperation programs. The leaders also deliberated on international matters, underscoring the resolution of conflicts through dialogue and adherence to international law.

A significant portion of their discussion centered on the Palestinian issue, with both leaders advocating for a just solution based on the two-state vision, ensuring the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Concerns about the situation in the Gaza Strip were also addressed, with both sides supporting efforts for a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction initiatives.

The visit culminated in the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields, establishing a Joint Economic Committee and promoting visa-free travel for citizens of both countries. His Majesty Sultan Haitham expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by President Putin and invited him to visit Oman, an invitation that was warmly received.
