Oman and Italy Sign Agreement to Boost Heritage and Museum Cooperation

Rome:The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Italian Ministry of Culture to advance cooperation in heritage and museum sectors. This signing took place during the visit of Oman's Heritage and Tourism Minister, Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, to Italy.

According to Oman News Agency, the MoU was signed by Oman's Minister Sayyid Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi and Italy's Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli.

The agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise in cultural heritage management, preservation, and restoration. It also seeks to advance museum development and exhibition organization. Additionally, the MoU focuses on building national capacities in archaeology and heritage conservation, along with establishing and restoring museums, and encourages the exchange of expertise.

Both ministers discussed implementing an executive programme to outline cooperation initiatives, particularly leveraging Italian expertise in developing the Oman Maritime Museum. They also explored ways to enhance heritage site management and implement training and residency programmes for Omani personnel involved in archaeological research, focusing on both terrestrial and underwater sites.
