Muscat: The Ministry of Health marked a significant milestone this evening by celebrating the tenth anniversary of the National Heart Center at the Royal Hospital. Over the past decade, the Center has been dedicated to providing cardiac care and surgical services that meet the highest international medical standards, positioning itself as a distinguished leader and a reference institution in cardiac healthcare at the local, regional, and global levels.
According to Oman News Agency, the anniversary event, hosted at Al Mirani Fort, was held under the patronage of Sheikh Sebbaa bin Hamdan Al Saadi, Secretary General of the Secretariat General of National Celebrations.
At his address, Dr. Najib bin Zahran Al Rawahi, Director of the National Heart Centre, reflected on the Centre’s founding as a strategic national project. ‘Our mission was to elevate specialized cardiac services and introduce the latest therapeutic technologies within the Sultanate of Oman, thereby providing world-class care locally and eliminating the necessity for patients to seek treatment abroad,’ he stated. He added that since its inauguration, the Center has positively impacted the lives of thousands of patients.
Dr. Al Rawahi highlighted the Centre’s landmark achievements, which include performing Oman’s first successful heart transplant, pioneering the first artificial heart implantation, and carrying out thousands of complex open-heart surgeries and advanced cardiac catheterizations. He also emphasized the Centre’s extended role in promoting cardiac health awareness and prevention initiatives across other referral hospitals.
‘The Centre’s mandate extends far beyond providing advanced cardiovascular treatment,’ he explained. “It encompasses public health education, preventative care, the training of medical professionals, and scientific research, solidifying its status as a regional and international authority in cardiac care.”
The ceremony featured a special tribute honoring the key instrumental figures in the Centre’s establishment. These founding contributors were recognized for their significant scientific and medical efforts, their generous support, and their steadfast belief in the critical importance of investing in healthcare.
The event was attended by Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, alongside a host of senior officials, health leaders from various government bodies, and the dedicated medical and administrative staff whose contributions have been central to the Centre’s success over the last ten years.
