Dhofar: The implementation of Al Morooj Dairy Company project in the Governorate of Dhofar has been one of the basic pillars of the system of food security in the Sultanate of Oman. The project has been an important channel in enhancing dairy production and developing related supply chains.
According to Oman News Agency, the company recently unveiled a plan to expand the establishment of milk collection centres. The plan includes the addition of three new centres in the wilayats of Thumrait, Taqah, and Mirbat, increasing the total number of such centres in the governorate to six. The centres have a collective capacity of up to 100,000 litres per day. These centres promote the efficiency of milk collection and supply operations and raise the quality of the final product. They also bring the services closer to breeders in areas with high livestock density, supporting the stability of milk production and diminishing losses.
Eng. Ahmed bin Salim Al Najjar, Director of the Livestock Department at the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate, stated that the Al Morooj Dairy Company project serves hundreds of livestock breeders, benefiting as many as 10,000 citizens. He explained that the project provides fresh and high-quality dairy products and consolidates the existing partnership between breeders and the authorities. Al Najjar added that the project serves as a model of public-private sector partnership in supporting value chains linked to livestock products, notably by developing milk collection mechanisms and improving the processes of transport and refrigeration. This ensures the quality of products and the sustainability of supplies.
Al Najjar affirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources would continue supporting such investment initiatives due to their role in developing the livestock sector, augmenting the efficiency of production, improving veterinary services and guidance, achieving sustainability, and enhancing food security in the Sultanate of Oman.
