Match Schedule for 2nd WAVA Men’s Volleyball Championship Unveiled

Muscat: The West Asian Volleyball Association has officially released the match schedule for the second West Asian Men's Volleyball Championship, which will be hosted by the Sultanate of Oman during 12-21 July at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The tournament will feature seven national teams vying for the championship title.

According to Oman News Agency, the Oman national team will commence its campaign on 14 July with a fixture against Lebanon in Group B. On the second day of the tournament, Iraq will face Saudi Arabia, while Kuwait takes on Syria in Group A fixtures.

Competition continues on 16 July with two matches scheduled: The first pits Iraq against Syria, while Oman will meet Saudi Arabia in a crucial encounter that carries significant implications for qualification to the semi-final round.

On the fourth day of the tournament, Syria will face Qatar, followed by a match between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. The group stage will conclude on 18 July with two fixtures, as Kuwait takes on Qatar, and Oman rounds out its group campaign against Iraq.

A rest day has been allocated for 19 July, with the knockout phase commencing on 20 July. This will feature the 5th-6th place play-off and the two semi-final matches. The championship will culminate on 21 July with the 3rd-4th place play-off and the final, which will determine the champion of the second edition.

The tournament draw placed Oman in Group B alongside Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, while Group A comprises Qatar, Kuwait, and Syria.

The championship will follow a single-round-robin format within each group, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals to compete for the title.
