HM The Sultan Ratifies Key International Agreements and Environmental Initiative

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued three pivotal Royal decrees, marking significant strides in international cooperation and environmental commitment for the Sultanate of Oman.

According to Oman News Agency, Royal Decree No. 65/2025 ratifies a framework agreement signed in Muscat on 27 May 2025 for joint cooperation between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This decree emphasizes the commitment to bilateral cooperation and will be published in the Official Gazette, coming into effect from its date of issue.

Royal Decree No. 66/2025 ratifies an agreement signed in Astana on 29 May 2025 with the Republic of Kazakhstan. This agreement focuses on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion on income and capital. Like the previous decree, it will also be published in the Official Gazette and become enforceable immediately.

In a significant environmental move, Royal Decree No. 67/2025 endorses Oman’s accession to Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (1973). This annex specifically addresses air pollution from ships. The decree mandates the relevant authorities to deposit the Document for Joining this Annex, ensuring adherence to its provisions. This decree will also be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from the date of issuance.
