Government Communication Centre Holds 28th Meeting to Strengthen Media Discourse

Muscat: The Government Communication Centre (GCC) recently convened its 28th meeting, bringing together directors and representatives of communication and media departments from various government entities. The meeting was held under the patronage of Dr. Khamis Saif Al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit.

According to Oman News Agency, the event aligns with the GCC’s efforts to enhance national media discourse and integrate Oman Vision 2040 into communication activities. In his opening remarks, Ibrahim Salim Al Salmi, Director General of the GCC, emphasized the role of media in building societal awareness and understanding of national directives. He highlighted the Centre’s dedication to ensuring Oman Vision 2040 is represented across all media platforms, from official news outlets to social media.

Al Salmi noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange insights and create communication initiatives that bring the Vision closer to the public. He stressed the importance of aligning outreach methods with societal aspirations, especially among youth.

Dr. Khamis Al Jabri spoke on the significance of Oman Vision 2040’s communication programs in fostering engagement around the Vision and its national priorities. He underscored the role of both government and private entities in raising awareness and impacting indicators related to the Vision. Al Jabri pointed out that the program ensures communication support at all stages of implementation, with monitoring to maintain message coherence.

The meeting also aimed to reinforce the linkage between government content and national targets, refine media plans for broader strategic goals, and introduce governance frameworks for institutional communication. A documentary presented by Abdullah Al Saidi, Communication Program Supervisor at the Follow-up Unit, highlighted milestones in strategic communication efforts supporting the Vision’s implementation.

Prof. Abdullah Khamis Al Kindi, a member of the State Council, delivered a presentation on institutional integration in national reputation-building. He addressed the evolution of corporate communication and its role in reputation management and message alignment within the Oman Vision 2040 framework.

Samira Al Sarihi, Media Researcher at the GCC, presented a guide for communicators on applying Oman Vision 2040 in government media activities. Meanwhile, Zakiyah Al Balushi, Director of Planning and Studies at the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, shared her entity’s experience in aligning operations with Vision 2040 targets.

The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion on improving media performance and institutional coordination to unify government messaging. This gathering is part of a series of GCC initiatives, in collaboration with Oman Vision 2040 Follow-up Unit, aimed at assessing media readiness, adapting to communication trends, and supporting development efforts.
