Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs Convenes with UNRWA Official in Cairo

Cairo: Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, and Christian Saunders, Acting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), today held a meeting in Cairo on the sidelines of a ministerial session of the Arab League Council. The two sides discussed the current humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, the operational and financial challenges posed to the UN agency and ways to enhance joint cooperation in a manner that secures the supply of essential services to Palestinian refugees.

According to Oman News Agency, Al Harthy affirmed the Sultanate of Oman's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. He underscored the vital role of the UNRWA in supporting humanitarian stability in the region. He stressed the need for concerted Arab and international efforts to provide the UNRWA with necessary backing to enable the agency to carry out its duties without obstacles.

For his part, the Acting Commissioner-General of the UNRWA expressed his deep appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman's constant support for humanitarian issues. He commended Oman's active role in supporting United Nations programmes and relief initiatives aimed to serve the Palestinian people.
