Dollar Wavers as Markets Weigh Interest Rate Outlook

Abu dhabi: The dollar delivered a fluctuating performance today, as fresh American strikes in the Middle East dampened market sentiment. The euro traded at USD 1.1553, edging slightly away from its ten-week low recorded last week. Attention now turns to the European Central Bank's monetary policy meeting later today, with indications that it stands ready to raise interest rates to counter inflation.

According to Oman News Agency, sterling stood at USD 1.33905. The dollar index, which measures the US currency against a basket of six major peers, fell to 99.903. The yen traded at 160.52 against the dollar, keeping traders on edge over the prospect of official intervention by Tokyo. The Australian dollar steadied at USD 0.7006, having touched its lowest level in nine weeks earlier in the session. The New Zealand dollar held firm at USD 0.5797.
