Salalah: The proceedings of the 25th Annual General Conference on "Government Readiness for a Sustainable Future" commenced today in the Wilayat of Salalah. This event is organized by the Ministry of Labour and the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) of the Arab League.
According to Oman News Agency, the two-day conference was inaugurated under the auspices of Dr. Mahad Said Ba'Owain, Minister of Labor, with the presence of numerous officials, representatives from government entities, the private sector, and representatives from the Arab Administrative Development Organization of the Arab League. As part of the Labour Forum 2026 in Dhofar Governorate, the conference aims to discuss strategies to enhance government readiness for future transformations, aligning with economic, technological, and environmental changes while achieving sustainable development. It also delves into the role of digital transformation, innovation, and modern governance in advancing government work, reviewing international experiences and practices in sustainability and government management, and fostering the exchange of expertise among government, regional, and international entities.
The conference emphasizes building more flexible and efficient government institutions capable of tackling future challenges and leveraging modern technologies and data to support decision-making and improve the quality of public services and policies. Nasser Salim Al Hadhrami, Director General of Labour in Dhofar Governorate, highlighted in his speech that organizing the conference aligns with the Labour Forum's theme "A Nation's Vision: Empowerment and Action," underlining the Ministry of Labour's commitment to enhancing government work readiness to adapt to future transformations and explore the challenges and opportunities in building more flexible, efficient, and sustainable governments.
He elaborated that the conference serves as a platform for exchanging Arab and international experiences, focusing on sustainable government policies, digital governance, strategic foresight, artificial intelligence, and developing government competencies. He mentioned several ministry initiatives contributing to developing institutional performance and building government capacities ready for the future, including the Strategic Human Resources Planning Project in the Government Sector, the National Occupational Competency Framework, the Human Resource Management and Development Matrix, the Institutional Innovation and Change Management System, and the Artificial Intelligence Initiative in Government Environments.
In a related context, Dr. Nasser Al Hatlan Al Qahtani, Director General of the Arab Administrative Development Organization of the Arab League, stated in his speech that the rapid technological, artificial intelligence, and economic and climate shifts necessitate the development of more flexible and efficient government working models and enhance their ability to foresee the future and manage risks. He noted that the conference provides a platform for exchanging expertise and knowledge on Arab governments' readiness for sustainability requirements, discussing digital transformation, governance, artificial intelligence, and innovation. He underscored the importance of Oman Vision 2040 as a model for future planning based on governance, sustainability, and building national capabilities, emphasizing that government readiness extends beyond technical infrastructure to include qualified leaders, agile institutions, advanced digital infrastructure, and effective governance systems.
